In short, we define temporary storage as grouping collected waste, before disposal, on the premises where it was produced. This must be carried out in homogeneous groups of waste that cannot be mixed / stored in the same container.

Temporary waste storage should be considered as an extension of the industrial / commercial business that produced it. Each management phase also needs to be considered (collection, transport, disposal or recovery) and storage should be seen as an integral but distinct activity. Therefore, the time and place of the business is what marks a defined line between the concepts of deposit and waste management. In any case, at our company, Eco.Ter in Pomezia, in the province of Rome, we can carry out both tasks.

Storage: times and dimensions

Temporary waste storage must be subject to particular conditions, such as a strict time limit when disposal must be carried out. This means it cannot be longer than one year.

However, it is also necessary to take into account the volume waste limits that can accumulate. For non-hazardous waste the maximum threshold is 30 cubic metres, while for hazardous waste it is down to 10m3. Furthermore, temporary waste storage must be conducted in compliance with all relevant technical standards, especially for hazardous waste, depending on their specific and particular nature.
